Hi, i'm new here and I'm not sure if I write at the right section.

I was about 3 monts without using gentoo, so I didn't update it all this time. When I wanted to update it i had problems with dependencies, apparently I solved it, but when I started again my computer I found that the login screen looked strange (with a lower resolution and dirty) and the keyboard and the mouse dont work.

Though a livecd I removed the xdm script (rc-update del xdm) and now I can use gentoo... but without graphics.

Can you help me, please? Thank you!

I recall having the mouse and keyboard issue when upgrading to xorg-server-1.6, I fixed it by adding
Code:
Section "ServerFlags"
        Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off"
EndSection

to /etc/X11/xorg.conf on one machine, but never got bothered by it on another machine because it's using evdev.

Also rebuild xf86-input-mouse and xf86-input-keyboard.

I'm guessing this is related to the xorg-server update. You can likely get your keyboard/mouse back by using the evdev drivers and making sure you have hald in your default runlevel.

I would also regenerate your xorg.conf to ensure things are correct. You can do this easily by using `Xorg -configure` and editing the generated file if necessary.

More info about the xorg-server update is here:

First of all, I'm sorry I didn't answer before.
Indeed, I began to have this problem when I tried to update the xorg-server. Unfortunately, this is not the only problem I have. I'm always having problems with the dependences, and I can't continue with the configuration of my kernel. When I solve a problem, then other problems appear.

That is why i am considering to install gentoo again.

Anyway, here my emerge info:

I see that you are updating from sabayon... that might be adding some complexity to your upgrades, and the dependency issues. If you want to use your older kernel config, you should be able to copy it the .config to the new sources and run 'make oldconfig' on it.

Your lack of a gcc version being reported is a bit concerning. According to your emerge --info output you might just need to run a source /etc/profile, but if that is not the case then you might have more than a few problem.

I always recommend that if you really want to switch to Gentoo from Sabayon you should backup your files, and start again with a clean Gentoo install... makes for less problems down the road.
