ah, ok. i was using bad logic. i had:

Code:
<www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.5.2-r1

which at the time would have made no sense, because there was no version bigger than that, and i didn't catch it.

thanks for the insight.

3.5 is ultimately screwed on Linux. so much that I finally banned it from my native apps and just keep it in wine for testing.

I guess it depends on what you have installed on your system. I use it every day and I have not had a single problem with it.

++ on this comment. I updated (accidently) on the day where it was marked stable. I've been really happy with the 3.5 branch, and have had no issues to speak of. I think the main reason it is still being held in ~x86 is due to some build time issues that arise under specific conditions.

i'm using firefox 3.5.3 by downloading it in the official website of mozilla. I don't have anybug. I think u should try it too :). But for all the plugins like flash, realplay and so forth, you'll have to configure it you're self.

Cheers

It worked perfectly for me installing it from portage. I would avoid installing applications outside of portage because this can break your system.

I don't see how an "extract and play" program like firefox can break your system. You can run firefox in user mode, that mean firefox can't modify your system.

If you want to run the official mozilla build instead of the source version, you should install firefox-bin... this will be identical to the version you manually installed, but will be seen by portage, and will work with your plugins.

I agree with drescherjm's comments about system breakage. Technically installing firefox manually won't break anything, but it is one more thing you will need to think about on future updates. Since it isn't seen my portage a future update might overwrite files important to firefox.
