Hi. I have create and ebuild for jDownloader.
If someone is interested on it, can found it under my portage overlay tree -> http://www.carrosses.com/~peratu/portage/

Installation instructions:

1º - download the ebuild and put it under "/usr/local/portage/net-misc/JDownloader/"
2º - create the Manifest file with "ebuild JDownloader-0.8.ebuild digest"
3º - Unmask it "echo net-misc/JDownloader >> /etc/portage/package.keywords"
4º - Install it "emerge net-misc/JDownloader"

NOTE: you must fetch the .zip file of jDownloader manually. You will see a message when you try to install it ;-)

I've did it not to long ago and ditched the idea because of the fact that compiling it from source disables all the "good" stuff but using it like that is problematic due to the program's upgrade cycle.

Could you provide your overlay via layman by providing an xml file for that or even add it to the central layman-global.txt if it is worth.
I tried creating my local xml but as types there is no http allowd, just rsync, subversion, bzr, darcs, git, mercurial or provided as tar packages.

Hello,

The shell starting script /usr/bin/jDownloader has a little bug which causes that automatic updater does not work.

Where it is
Code:

#!/bin/sh
if [ -d "~/.jDownloader/" ] ; then
        java -jar ~/.jDownloader/JDownloader.jar
else
        mkdir ~/.jDownloader/
        cp -R /opt/JDownloader/* ~/.jDownloader/
        java -jar ~/.jDownloader/JDownloader.jar
fi

It should be

Code:

#!/bin/sh
if [ -d "$HOME/.jDownloader/" ] ; then
        java -jar ~/.jDownloader/JDownloader.jar
else
        mkdir ~/.jDownloader/
        cp -R /opt/JDownloader/* ~/.jDownloader/
        java -jar ~/.jDownloader/JDownloader.jar
fi

The ~ is not recognized in the script, so the installed version in /opt/jDownloader is always recopied in user's home directory.

Greetings from Spain!

Ciges
