Hello fellow gentoo-ers,

Gummi is a LaTeX editor written in Python/GTK+ and released under the MIT license. I as its main developer have been working on since the late summer, and I personally feel that with the latest 0.4.0 (released on October 12th) gummi has transformed from basically being a wrapper holding up a poppler-pdf & gtksourceview widget to an actual (resonably) mature project that people are interested in using for their documents. I hope you feel the same way, and I invite you all to grab the latest version from Sunrise and break..my..code..!

PS: please report or post bugs ;)

Features:

  • Live PDF preview pane
  • Syntax highlighting
  • BibTeX support
  • Auto-scaling
  • Export to PDF
  • Import modules for graphics, matrices & tables
  • Preset tex templates
  • Configuration through gconf

Yes, this looks very nice (might drag me away from Emacs!)

Thanks for the kind words. When an emacs user says he might ditch it in favour of your software, you're probably doing something right. ;)

Looks pretty and finally something good in this sector which is not qt-based. Can't try it before the weekend, but a question: does it feature (yet) a symbol panel as i.e. kile or if not, is it planned and if yes, how long will it take? Thanks for your effort :)

Thanks! The next release will focus on adding more core-features that Gummi is currently missing. I'll make a list after my exams describing what that should be - and we'll get to work on that. A symbol pane sounds like something the less advanced latex/gummi users would definitely appreciate. I'm not a fan of the way Kile has implemented it, so hopefully we can come up with something more intuitive.

Cheers, Alexander

Is there no ebuild for the new gummi version?
