all these bickering!
somebody please get zen-sources up and going.
that's all i care cos it's a great project.
this is the problem with open source. someone just starts bickering
and 'the freedom' is simply put aside. a big EGO thing.

This is way out of bounds.

Things were going smoothly just 1 day ago, and then 3/4 of us decide to move irc channel to rizon (for all the services and less lag and smaller) - everyone of us agreed except rmh, so when I said it was happening he removed access from everything for us and we are currently trying to fix this.

Things have been turning into being not-so-teamlike (and rmh, if you don't think that taking away everybody's access and the website because we finally made a joint decision is out of bounds

Regardless, we will fix this so please don't get too involved guys.

join us on IRC, patches are already posted there and I will post them here as well. (rmh taking the website and git access down very suddenly and unexpectedly threw us off a notch)

He can throw me missing a few months into this, but I had much more important matters to tend to at the time.

Anyway guys, thanks for the support. We're not looking to rename the project, weren't even looking to kick rmh out :? - but we did want some changes like an irc network switch, and didn't think that rmh's vote should count as more than the rest of ours.

I'm not one to bash, but it's ridiculous what happened and could have easily been avoided altogether.

Emphasis on cheater's leave in the summer shouldn't be taken heavily, the other team members picked the slack up at their own pace.

Like an organic mesh, more users got involved as more things in the git repository breaks - I'm not worried that any absence or malicious intent of a single member can seriously handicap this project.

However, it's disappointing that rmh has pulled the plug on the git and httpd services for zen-sources during an essential growth spurt (stable kernel branches and implementation of cheater's zen sched).

No actually, nothing happened all summer. The "slack" you refer to didn't get picked up till the fall. And I tried to not put emphasis on just cheater's leave. I dodo hadn't done anything substantial in over a year, wanin for over a year... If you ran a project and 2 of 3 other people basically quit for a year then came back and started demanding things.... would you just give in?

but always remember, democracy rules! :D

P.S. do I remember well about zen-sources name being originally waninkoko's?

for the future:

if anyone of you project members leaves or has to leave for a longer period of time please announce it so the others know why there's not that much development going on for some time

to be honest I was somewhat pissed during the summer while zen didn't change in some time

I believe the most of us will understand that you have a life outside of zen but please please announce if you have to take a break for some time

thanks ! :)

i wonder why nobody mentions the fact that 'freedom' addresses
and should address mostly users and would be users of any open source
project.
if you jack the plug off suddenly, for any reasons, freedom is hampered and trashed.
you don't care for all the thousand of users, simply put. you only care for your EGO.
the guy running DesktopBSD announced that he wasn't continuing the project in time so
all users could have the time to get alternatives if need be. he didn't just pull it off.
I wonder, for all the rights and wrongs, Mr Linus jacking off the kernel just for some kind of
bloated EGO. nobody would have any kernel to hack certainly and of course Mr rmh wont have
his zen-sources.
this is pure nonsense from a users point of view. for any reasons.

How about putting the git repo up on github/gitorious in the mean time?

I say we it and stick a fork in it and let rmh be a stick in the mud. This shouldn't be even a problem, call it zen-kernel call it what you want but the name wont change the quality or demand, it however keep us moving. I can contribute a server with gentoo on a q9550 @ 4.25ghz with 8gb ram / 2.5tb HDD/RAID5 on 20/2 fiber not the fastest upload but will suffice, and can give to give conrad a ssh login with full permissions if he needs something temporary, but only Conrad because we have a somewhat long history and i trust him not to rm -fr / ;P

So all and all lets just do what we can.

Ok, it's just a name... the substance of zen-sources surely won't die, if you have to rename it (to, e.g., kamikaze-sources ;)) - so be it.

While I'm sure all of you feel this needs airing in public, why don't you all get together on some random IRC channel and hash this out and get it over with so that people who want to use the patches can get on with their lives?

It's #zen-sources on irc.rizon.net, in case you missed it.

2.6.30-zen9:

I'm on a Q6700 @ 3.2GHz, 8GB, 4.25TiB non RAID, sitting on 20/20 fiber :)

Done, but please use the reports topic or the #gentoo-forums channel on freenode or OFTC to prod moderators into action, the all seeing eye does occasionally blink.
