okay i do folding on my laptop on gentoo and love it...it works better and more efficent i believe than windows vista folding my cpu.... very straight forward on linux to setup folding on multiple cpu cores...now what i really want to know is on my desktop would it be plausible to actually do two gpu's while i do 4 cpu core workloads??

my desktop consists of i7 860@2.8ghz, gigabyte ud6 board, and dominator gt twin channel ddr3 memory, and two bfg 9600gt oc2....

and how do i go about setting up efficiently, should i do it through wine or console???

Yes, this is possible. used to do almost exactly that with 8800GTX's on quad core2. Finished WU's well ahead of deadline running 24/7.

Got sick of wine though, so just use smp client now. whine seemed to break regularly on updates and just generally mess up nearly everything it touched. It /did/ work consistently with folding gpu's though. See this thread for gpu folding setup info. If no response here that thread would be good to try. I recommend running everything from consoles in gnu-screen.

AFAIK gpu is only available for windows, but mostly works with wine. However, wine itself may not work so well. I use a minimal tiling window manager, though, so that may have been why any graphical app I tried in wine had problems: ymmv. It may work better with a normal stacking float window oriented window manager.
