hi,
after an update (--update world), the vmware sever the vmware-server did not work. OK, i've reemerge vmware-modules.
i've loaded all the modules like vmci, vmblock, etc.
but i get only the message

VMWARE is not not properly configured

but if i run the vmware-config.pl

i got only the message

Making sure services is already stopped
Unable to stop services for VMWare Server

Execution aborted.

Thats all, no further logs.

Did anybody have an idea, how can i fix it?
Where can i find more error logs? There is noting in /var/logs .

i've unmerged vmware-server and i deleted the rest and then emerge vmware-server
same error.
i've reinstalled perl and run the perl-cleaner
same error.

thx
kuni

It happened the same on my computer. I do not know what I did exactly,

try this:

# rm /etc/vmware/not_configured
# /etc/init.d/vmware start
# /opt/vmware/server/bin/vmware-config.pl

if you cannot cleanly stop vmware (it happens to me, I cannot stop all its services when I tell it to do), then restart the computer and execute vmware-config.pl again.

hi,
in the meantime, i've solved it.
there is a undocumented option: vmware-config.pl -skip-stop-start
the test of the vmware-services will not run and i could enter my configuration and serial
and ...

i must load the vmware module manual, the first time, and then i can update the modules.
so, everything works fine.
:D

Nice. Thanks for that tip, that helped me get around this too.
