IBook G4, 133mhz, 1.25meg, 60 gig drive.

Is it worth the effort to try to put Gentoo on this laptop?

I used to run gentoo on my iBook G4, and it ran great. It would still be in use, but I let it get really out of date so it wasn't worth it to me to update or re-install. I say try it out if you are curious. BTW - The G4 is the ppc archetecture if you weren't already aware, so you might run into issues that other folks won't see, but the Gentoo ppc portion of the forums are really helpful.

I do believe these specs are a bit flawed? Try 1330mhz, 1.25gig, 60 gig drive? just a thought.

And yeah, ppc is way less out-there than, say, alpha. This certainly is the right community for alternative architectures - you name it, there's a cult for it. PPC will also make you friends elsewhere (yellowdog is more popular than you'd think). I've been looking to get into ppc for a while now myself...

You've got a decent machine.

At this time, I took the easy way out. I used Fedora 11 to do it, it's quick and dirty but I was looking for that this time. Later, I may flip it to Gentoo. Thanks for the insight to Apple Linux ---> PPC.
