I installed 1.0.1, then, in an xterm, re-loaded /etc/profile and ran firefox.

It shows as a plugin but when I go to a silverlight site (say,http://beamartian.jpl.nasa.gov/maproom), it is not recognised.

Any suggestions?

I know this is NOT helpful, but I'm not sure Microsoft is being smart about this. It's yet another proprietary shindig that everyone else has to bend over backwards for - especially if you're not on Windows. Personally, I'm not going to pay it no nevermind, and any site that it based on this technology will just have to miss out on my visit.

But, hope ya get it working anyway. Just 'cuz I'm that geeky. 8O

Apart from emerging the moonlight package itself, you may require to download additional media player plugins / codecs for browser.

Either case, most likely it won't work as most silverlight stuff on web is now >= 2.0. It is funny that moonlight is still looking at preliminary 2.0 support in their alpha versions (last time I checked), while microsoft is already at 4.0.

Ah, ok, thanks. I won't bother with it.

I'm testing moonlight 1.99.8. Works pretty much ok - but as already mentioned - another crap, completely useless technology with closed development model.

its because silverlight-1 is pretty much useless and isn't actually used in the wild

Moonlight 2 is due to be released in the next 2 weeks or less. You can grab the latest beta here: http://go-mono.com/moonlight-beta/

It works fine by itself, you don't have to emerge anything Moonlight-related I think, only the latest stable Mono.
