Normally when a kernel boots up there is a penguin at the top of the screen. For some reason I've got a pointy toed monster instead. Is this a kernel option? I doubt it's some kind of hacker, but it's really strange and I don't like things on my computer that can't be explained.

i think you are talking about a temporary change the kernel devs made to the linux logo in kernel 2.6.29.

Well, that explains that. I never noticed before because I haven't had a monitor hooked up to it in a year. I'm wanting to convert it to 32-bit userspace and that's made easier by a monitor. I can't get the serial line connection to my Dell working for some reason.
