i'm on sabayon right now and paring down the kernel. first pass at trimming left me with 51 modules :!:
there a few items makeconfig will not allow me to uncheck. debugging, kallsyms, embedded systems...
think i'll break something if i edit .config with editor?

whiteghost,

Yes. You will create an illegal configuration that may or may not build and will will provoke all sorts of hard to trace bugs.
Try one of Pappys Seeds

That will get you a kernel suited to your own hardware - all the general purpose bloat will be removed.

.... moving to unsupported software as Sabayon is not Gentoo

i am using the gui for first time. gconfig. now i see some lines are faded and not meant for configuring. in menuconfig there were some options i was used to unchecking that were 'fixed', maybe thats just for sabayon-sources.

thanks neddy.
