Hi,

I've got a Gentoo install on my PS3 and have an annoying problem with dev-util/desktop-file-utils.

When installing it gets to the point where its checking for the location of .elc files and then just hangs. The configure looks like...

Code:

# emerge desktop-file-utils

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

The strange thing is that I don't have USE="emacs" set (as the above shows and my emerge --info shows below), so why is the configure script checking for emacs and where .elc files should go?

Bit annoying really as this is preventing me from updating world because if I break out and then 'emerge --resume --skipfirst' I'm told its an invalid list.

Any pointers/suggestions appreciated.

Cheers

Unsurprisingly this (like most of my problems!) is attributable to user error.

When initially installing I had installed app-editors/zile (a small emacs clone) to have a text editor like emacs installed quickly and I'd symlinked /usr/bin/emacs to point to /usr/bin/zile.

So things weren't working properly as a consequence of this.

Resolved by...

Code:

eselect emacs set 2

...to get /usr/bin/emacs pointing to the true emacs install that was already there.

slack (who's memory for what he's done is his major downfall!)
