then I tried to use layman -a multilib but I'm having issues with the lib32 flag
Code:
Maggie vicfred # emerge -avuDN world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

Hi Vicfred,

check if you have selected the multilib profile with:

Code:
eselect profile list

switch to the multilib profile with:
Code:
eselect profile set x

x is the number you have to enter

try again, eventually you have to set the right kernel option and rebuild your kernel,if its not done yet:
Code:
Processor type and features  --->
   [ ] Machine Check Exception
   [ ]   Intel MCE Features
   [ ]   AMD MCE Features
  Processor family (AMD-Opteron/Athlon64)  --->
    ( ) Opteron/Athlon64/Hammer/K8
    ( ) Intel P4 / older Netburst based Xeon
    ( ) Core 2/newer Xeon
    ( ) Generic-x86-64
Executable file formats / Emulations  --->
   [*] IA32 Emulation

for more information about this, take a look at:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-amd64.xml?style=printable&full=1
and search for keyword multilib of couse :wink:

Andy.

I had the default profile

Code:
[1]   default/linux/amd64/10.0 *

Now I have the desktop profile

Code:
[2]   default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop *

And yes, my kernel was compiled with the IA32_SUPPORT option
