I have some exciting news (at least for me). I have injured my knee and so have not been able to do my day job which has left me more time to work on porthole.

I have made a number of changes/improvements.
Translation updates: German translation has been updated. Thank you Timo Gurr
Polish translation has been updated. Thank You Arkadiusz Kowalski

Dependency view code has been completely overhauled and cleaned up. It is much more maintainable now not to mention about 30% faster (backend code alone). It is also fully dynamic now so only gathers the data needed for the deps that are expanded, making it fast always now. The backend depends data is also cached now and fully re-used as dependencies are often sub dependencies of other dependencies...

The ebuild view is now re-done and highlights the ebuild using the gentoo syntax rules. It does this using dev-python/pygtksourceview. So there is a new dependency to porthole.

The ChangeLog view has been completely redone and now has custom highlighting and the bug #'s are clickable which opens your browser to the bugzilla bug. 8) Check out my blog for a screenshot of it.

    several bugfixes

I have started work on re-organizing the backend so it will be better able to use alternate package managers and commands with porthole. That should be in the next major release (targeting -0.7)

I am also about to start making a plug-in module for gpytage which can be used to organize and edit all the /etc/portage files. I have been pestering Ken69267 to get gpytage finished so I can add it as a plug-in.

I hope get another release out by Christmas, so please grab an svn checkout and run it directly from the checkout with the -l,--local flag to test it. Do not attempt to install it as the installere has not yet been updated. It will run fine from the svn checkout and so will not interfere with the installed version.

Also If you can help with any translations. Please contact me. I know that the translations are out of date and many strings are not yet translated. I can be reached via email at sourceforge, pm in these forums, On IRC @ freenode on several channels including a new #porthole channel.

Ok, I'm nearly ready for another release. just need to check a few more things and hopefully get some more translation updates from you (the users). I have updated the translation files in svn with the final strings. Please if you can look over the language that you know how to tranlate and fix any I may have messed up last time.

German and Polish translations should be quite good.

If you would like to see Porthole translated to any other languages, let me know. For the first time there are quite a few strings to translate, but even if you can't get them all, it is a start. You may be able to split it up with a buddy or two as well.

Please submit any updates to porthole's sourceforge patches tracker. That way they can't get lost in the mail like one did in the past.

Polish has been updated now. Thank you Arkadiusz Kowalski for the updates.

I have the gpytage plug-in ready for this upcoming release. The next plug-in I am going to do is an equery plug-in. I have been working with djanderson to split up the code into separate backend & print functions. This makes the code much more/easier to use in other programs to yield data. There has been another benefit, the code is faster, and now is capable of running tests to confirm changes to backend code is still producing correct results. So check out gentoolkit-0.3.0_rc8 which should be released very soon.
