I don't understand why allegedly source ebuild requires binary package. Please explain. 8O

You need a java compiler/interprete to bootstrap icedtea. After bootstraped you can unmerge icedtea6-bin.

its like how do you compile gcc without a Ccompiler

Fine, for some reason I assumed that the javac and all that stuff in icedtea6 didn't need any part of actual java code, e.g. we build javac with gcc and then we can build the classpath. Thanks for the clarification.
