Hello,

I already read some pages relating problems with hal and policykit.
But these are quite old.
I was looking for a more up to date status regarding the recommended way of / best practice for authorizing un-priviledged accesses to devices on a standard KDE4-multiuser-desktop not risky configuration with automounting features. (policykit / plugdev / other / nothing) ?

Set the Desktop profile ie ... default/linux/x86/10.0/desktop *
Code:
eselect profile list

Code:
eselect profile set #

Code:
env-update; source /etc/profile

set the policykit USE flag for the following packages.
Code:
echo "sys-auth/consolekit policykit" >> /etc/portage/package.use

Code:
echo "sys-apps/hal policykit" >> /etc/portage/package.use

Code:
emerge -uDNa world

Thanks for your help Dan, but do you mean that policykit is actually the best practice / recommended / troublefree way for authorizing access to devices, practice to be extended system wide ?
