I have a small root partition, where /tmp resides, but my home folder is fairly large. When I try downloading a 3.5G iso firefox says there is not enough room in /tmp for the temp file.

Is there a way to tell firefox to use another folder to temporarily store a file when it downloads. Iv played with env variables and looked in preferences but cant see anything or get it to use another folder.

To be clear, this is the temporary folder to create the temporary file to download. The download directory is already a folder in the home folder. this is the file that looks like this /tmp/.K23Kdf2.bin.part

i couldn't find anything , i would have thought it would have been in a config file somewhere but didn't see anything.

all i can suggest is a temporary link from /tmp to somewhere with enough room for a quick fix to get the file you want.

Hopefully someone else knows the answer cause now i'm curious myself.

In Edit->Preferences->Main there is an option "Save files to:" with a "Browse" button to set a location for the download.

I've nevee seen firefox downloading temporary to /tmp. AFAIK it downloads to <filename>.part, and while the download runs creates a temporary empty file without the .part extension (to reserve the filename while the download is running) and finally moves <filename>.part to <filename>.

Which firefox version are you using?
