Hello,

I consider the fam use flag in kdelibs.

If I unset it, will it get as a consequence that there will be no filesystem event monitoring possibilities under kde ?

Under freeBSD and kde 3, there is a possibility for kde with gamin I would prefer to fam.
Ideally I would even have preferred inotify.

kdelibs with USE="fam" depends on virtual/fam, which defaults to app-admin/gamin pulling in the gam-server & libgamin which pass --enable-inotify to ./configure if they detect a linux kernel, on FreeBSD AFAIK gamin should automatically compile with kqueue support, so everything should work as intended.

Simply... splendid !

Thanks a lot tgurr for this information as well as, of course, for what you might have done contributing to this result.

kde4 has built in inotify support. Gamin/fam was only needed in kde3
