Does there exist a gentoo guide (official or non-official) to compiling/loading/configuring kernel modules?

It would be nice to have a guide that goes over the basics of modules, kernel daemons that automatically load them, user-level tools like modprobe, modinfo, lsmod, and insmod, the various files/directories in /etc that are used for configuration and anything gentoo-specific about module management.

Couldn't find anything by searching the forums, so I thought I would ask if this already exists somewhere, or is in the works.

What you might like to look at is on the ibm developer works site.
It's not gentoo specific but it is written by d robbins, c houser and a griffis who are quite a bit of gentoo. ;)
The document is LPI Certification 101 exam prep pt 2. It contains a section detailing pretty much everything you want. link

This Introduction to the Linux kernel has some of what you're looking for. Not as much depth in terms of tools and config files, but lots of info that makes working with kernels and modules *much* easier.

Thanks for the pointers. I also happened to notice that the linux kernel documentation itself (included with source) has some very helpful info.
