Hallo,

I have some old fonts I used with windows back in 1995 ...

The files have .TT_ and .TTF extensions.

Is it possible to load them in gentoo?

I need this in order to have a greater variety of fonts but also to read some old documents I had saved with word.

Kind regards,
orange_juice

You can put the TTF files in ~/.fonts/, don't know what *.TT_ is though.

Hallo, thanx for the reply.

I created .fonts directory and works great with TTF fonts.

I googled TT_ and it seems to be an extension for unicode fonts.
EDIT: TT_ is compressed TTF!

I wonder if it is possible to install them somehow ...

Kind regards

OK! I found the solution for the *.TT_ fonts.

From windows DOS command prompt I execute
Code:
expand -r *.TT_

Then all TT_ files are expanded and renamed to ttf

I copied the ttf fonts to .fonts dir and ... voila!

Kind regards,

Is this truly all there is to installing new fonts?? Isn't there any complicated configuration stuff that one needs to do? Has font management, probably the most mysterious for me of all aspects of a Linux OS, finally been simplified to the point of triviality??? I've googled around a bit, and looked in the forum FAQs, but find nothing much.... anyway not much that's not ancient, and I don't trust those.

First of all:  thread necromancy.

As for the problem: that's just about enough for any app, that uses fontconfig (that obviously includes all gtk/qt apps).
