I'm getting tired of trying to source a cheap GXT135P - and besides, what 3D capabilities does Matrox have anyway. Has anybody tried sticking a Mac Edition PCI graphics card in their RS/6000, and if so, does it work with Linux? 3D/framebuffer/XVideo...?

I doubt it, most graphics cards have a startup routine that runs when the machine is powered on, called by OF (or the BIOS on x86 and PowerPC machines with x86 emulators specifically for this case). You may be able to get some cards to work later in the boot process, but you will not have kernel messages until the card has been initialized.

If RS/6000 and Macs use the same OF, then I'd be willing to bet that PCI Radeon Mac Editions would work.

Maybe with Kernel Modesetting, newer (non-PPC) cards will work as well.

Motoi-Sakuraba-Milfeuille: I've got an unused Radeon 9200 PCI Mac edition that I'd gladly sell you. PM me if you're interested.

They do not use OF like Macs do, most are booted using the PReP method.

You are right about most cards with modesetting working, but as I said in my post, you will not have a console or kernel messages until the card has been initialized.
