hi there! got this with emerge --sync on zavallon, trying to upgrade to latest version but with equo it's impossible(sabayon 3.5):

Code:

Number of files: 138414
Number of files transferred: 10
Total file size: 187769514 bytes
Total transferred file size: 47395 bytes
Literal data: 47395 bytes
Matched data: 0 bytes
File list size: 3288117
File list generation time: 0.001 seconds
File list transfer time: 0.000 seconds
Total bytes sent: 35542
Total bytes received: 3440108

sent 35542 bytes  received 3440108 bytes  31741.10 bytes/sec
total size is 187769514  speedup is 54.02

 * IMPORTANT: 2 config files in '/etc' need updating.
 * See the CONFIGURATION FILES section of the emerge
 * man page to learn how to update config files.
q: Updating ebuild cache ...
q: Finished 27484 entries in 2.085991 seconds

and with..

Code:
emerge -e system

!!! /etc/make.profile is not a symlink and will probably prevent most merges.
!!! It should point into a profile within /usr/portage/profiles/
!!! (You can safely ignore this message when syncing. It's harmless.)

Calculating dependencies ... done!
>>> Auto-cleaning packages...

>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.

shows that

some hint...

:?

edit: by the way...if i wannna install e:

Code:
 emerge enlightenment

!!! /etc/make.profile is not a symlink and will probably prevent most merges.
!!! It should point into a profile within /usr/portage/profiles/
!!! (You can safely ignore this message when syncing. It's harmless.)

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "x11-wm/enlightenment" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-wm/enlightenment-1.0.2 (masked by: EAPI 2)
- x11-wm/enlightenment-1.0.1 (masked by: EAPI 2)
- x11-wm/enlightenment-0.16.9999 (masked by: EAPI 2)

The current version of portage supports EAPI '1'. You must upgrade to a
newer version of portage before EAPI masked packages can be installed.

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

thanks!

Looks like the /etc/make.profile symlink is missing. You can have this created by using 'eselect profile set #' where # is the profile number. A list of available profiles is shown with 'eselect profile list'.

After you upgrade your portage this message should disappear. Make sure that the first thing you do after restoring your profile symlink is:

Code:
emerge -1av portage

Feel free to ask some specific questions about these steps.
