Hey:

Just seeking some advice here.

I've been finding that deluge (bittorrent client) from time to time sucks up so much memory that the OOM killer is invoked and random processes get torn down.

I'm just curious what people suggest I should do. I think I've got a couple options:

1) Turn off the OOM killer
2) Add a nice-ness value to deluge, so it's more likely it'll get picked to be torn down
3) Buy more memory?

Anyhow, I'm terrified of #1, as I'm not sure what other repercussions that would have.

#2 sounds like it might work. If that's the case, should I upload a patch for supporting a niceness level in the start-stop-daemon call of the init-scripts?

#3 unfortunately isn't possible as this box is tapped out.

Any other suggestions? Any of my suggestions have merit?

Well, I would stay well away from option #1. You are exhausting your virtual memory...so if the OOM killer is being invoked, it's because the system needs more memory in order to survive.

How much ram do you have and how much swap?
