Turns out, there is more to it than some bad driver for my ethernet. I figured out my wireless was not working either.
Found out the Sonics Silicon Backplane driver was complaining about unknown SPROM version. Some Google-fu provided me with a way to find the sprom version it was getting, which was interesting.

You can see when compared to 33-zen3 something looks a bit off. Straight 1's?
Heres boot log for .33-zen3

And .35-zen3+

Any ideas?

I think Steven it's still working on updating/merging branches so, yes, I think it's normal ;)

btw, thanks Steven also for the aufs patches!

P.S. you guys probably have already noticed, but pasting an url shouldn't hurt http://ck-hack.blogspot.com/2010/10/minor-bfs-357-bug-on-2636.html

Hi, everyone, I've just compiled the new zen (linux-2.6.35-zen2) and it boots well, however, I have noticed that a. there is no system beep in my pc speaker, and b. my keyboard and mouse fails to work. I fear I have left something out, but for the life of me, I can't find what it could be.

Thanks

Todd

Maybe support for the appropriate USB controller? Did you try starting with a kernel seed?

Yes, actually, I did start with a seed, and I have compared my old (working) .config to the new one in gedit, and I have yet to find any differences in the USB drivers

Looks like zram works in 2.6.36, but it seems really unstable. I think I'll hold off on it for now.

Heads up - svgalib does not compile with 2.6.36. In case anyone has that installed.

Hi guys, this is Steven.

I just pushed zen0 since I'm satisfied with the features we've merged and the patches to stop certain workloads steam roll through our file cache and cause page faults. The only thing remaining is AUFS... but from what I've read about the attempts to port AUFS 2.1 to 2.6.36, I'm going to, instead, wait for a patch that doesn't hardlock the kernel.

If anyone finds anything, please let us know (our google group / mailing list: http://groups.google.com/group/zen_kernel)

hi Steven,

couldnt write on google mailing list as it seems to be unavailable now. writing here so :)

since a week i'm using 2.6.36 and aufs2/sqlzma patch (i think you were also working on it) from this thread:
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.file-systems.aufs.user/2964
no problems so far. theres also a group of other peoples who are using it as latest BETA of slax-remix bases on it.
maybe i could try to recreate the error on my PC - any guide for this?
you can also try latest BETA yourself if you wish:

download link:
http://ponce.cc/slax-remix/testing/slax-remix-v09-BETA-x86_64.iso
md5sum: 46678405717495dab5cacd7fd0b11942

i have used mentioned aufs2/sqlzma patch and Con Kolivas patches for 2.6.36 kernel only. as i said before - no problems at all.
let me know if theres anything more what i can do in this subject.

Cheers

Just got 2.6.36-zen0 set up on this machine...and even ndiswrapper is happy...as long as it's patched for .36. There are seeds available as well for those interested (x86 or x86_64). I'm compiling it for my x86_64 even now. Here's hoping nvidia-drivers-260 work in a stable fashion, even though they are listed as beta.

<EDIT>It's now up and running on the x86_64. So far, so good.</EDIT>

Cheers,
Pappy

You know what's the tag line? "Zen sources -- always a generation behind" ;)

You know, it's tough nowadays with the busy schedule :( I did just get around to cleaning up classic rcu however. It's in git now ;)

What is the relationship between the in-kernel aufs2 in zen and the various aufs2 ebuilds floating around in portage, various overlays, and bugzilla? Is sys-fs/aufs2 the module itself (in which case I wouldn't want to compile the in-kernel version at all), userspace utils, both? The "Readdir in userspace" option sounds like something I probably want according to the help, but the required aufs2-util according to the README in their git needs kernel headers that don't come with Gentoo's package, and Gentoo seems to offer no clean way to make install zen's headers. There's also an aufs2-util ebuild in the berkano overlay which fails if headers aren't installed. The discussion here isn't giving me any clues: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=275476

I'm mainly confused by this:
Quote:
Makefile in this tree has some customizable make-variables.
- CPPFLAGS
specify the include path if necessary.
Some of linux kernel header files are necessary including
linux/aufs_type.h. If you have installed kernel header files to
/usr/include, then you may not need to specify CPPFLAGS.
Otherwise you need to do something like this sample.
+ run "make headers_install" in your kernel source tree, and
$LinuxSrc/usr/include is created and header files are installed
there.
+ if you build aufs2 as module from aufs2-standalone.git, then
$Aufs2Stdalone/usr/include is created and header files are
installed there.
+ and specify
CPPFLAGS="-I $LinuxSrc/usr/include -I $Aufs2Stdalone/usr/include"

Do I:
  • install sys-fs/aufs2 and not compile any module/built in aufs2 support in zen, then instruct aufs2-util to look for kernel-headers at a location where they are installed by the ebuild via CPPFLAGS?
  • Don't install sys-fs/aufs2, build aufs2 into the kernel, or from the kernel as a module, and install aufs2-util by pointing it to the headers at the kernel source location?
  • Just make install the zen headers manually
  • Some other combination of the above?

I hit /. and saw the bit about the automatic task group scheduling for CFQ, immediately knew that I needed to try this, and zen-stable had it already patched. Always nice to know zen got your need for "easy" experimentation with new nifty kernel features covered. Ty! :)

since the zen kernel has stopped showing up in portage, I thought
I'd try the git route,

But when I run:

Code:
git clone git://zen-kernel.org/kernel/zen-stable.git zen-sources

all I get (after a while sometimes, sometimes right quick):

Code:
Cloning into zen-sources...
fatal: read error: Connection reset by peer

I know nothing about git, so any help would be appreciated.
