Trying to patch zen 2.6.37 (zen-stable-master) with tuxonice:
Code:

patching file mm/vmscan.c
Hunk #1 FAILED at 2487.
Hunk #2 succeeded at 2600 (offset 53 lines).
Hunk #3 succeeded at 2630 (offset 53 lines).
1 out of 3 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file mm/vmscan.c.rej

vmscan.c.rej reads:
Code:
*** 2487,2492 ****
        if (!populated_zone(zone))
                return;

        pgdat = zone->zone_pgdat;
        if (zone_watermark_ok(zone, order, low_wmark_pages(zone), 0, 0))
                return;
--- 2487,2495 ----
        if (!populated_zone(zone))
                return;

+       if (freezer_is_on())
+               return;
+
        pgdat = zone->zone_pgdat;
        if (zone_watermark_ok(zone, order, low_wmark_pages(zone), 0, 0))
                return;
~

I can still build the kernel and boot it, but trying to hibernate locks up the computer.

Any advice welcome.

search for:

Code:
        if (!populated_zone(zone))
                return;

in mm/vmscan.c

there are several of those entries - so make sure that the spaces (or tabs) in front of it are exactly the same so you'll find it pretty fast

those are shown with gedit - don't know if the other editors make it that easy, too

and put the changes into it so that it looks like so:

Code:
        if (!populated_zone(zone))
                return;

       if (freezer_is_on())
               return;

thanks for the tip kerneloftruth - it worked inasmuch as the
kernel built fine, but my computer still freezes when trying
to hibernate

works fine in zen 2.6.36 with tuxonice patch ...

you could try one of my kernel flavors if you need tuxonice :)

[see signature]

I've only compiled-tested them since waking up doesn't work with my OSS radeon drivers & booting up with KMS also leads to hardlock

there surely is one among them that'll work for you ;)

Yesterday i downloaded and compiled from
Code:
http://git.zen-kernel.org/zen-stable/snapshot/zen-stable-2.6.37.2.tar.bz2
it was without bfs and the other zen goodies and it created vmlinuz-2.6.37.2 ==> no trace of zen!

Today i made
Code:
git clone --depth 1 git://zen-kernel.org/kernel/zen-stable.git
and everything was there as it should be!

Thanks again to kerneloftruth - your 2.6.37.2 kernel
with TOI patches (plus a bunch of the rest :) )
seems to work perfectly.

maybe this is getting off topic ...

but I spoke too soon - it's very strange but every other
boot, the kerneloftruth patched 2.6.37.2 fails; it's hard
to see any of the boot messages but the first error
appears to be something like:

kernel bug at vmalloc.c

It goes downhill from there

If I use sysrq to reboot, the next time it works ... and so on

I am a little bit confused

I downloaded the zen-master 2.6.37 patch from the zen-kernel website. Seems to apply fine against 2.6.37 kernel. But once I launch the make menuconfig editor, it says "2.6.36-zen2" on the top. WTF?

Here is the ebuild if you want to test it.

http://paste.pocoo.org/show/347790/

Once I solve this problem I will probably push it on portage

*EDIT*

I forgot to say that you need to name this ebuild as 2.6.37_p20110303.ebuild in order to work with the uploaded zenpatch on my devspace

I'm not sure if it is a zen kernel related, but after upgrade to 2.6.37.2-bfs2 from git X server eats cpu up to 50% (100% of one core) without any apps running.

Killing KNemo helps a lot, but still not perfect.

Enable "Big Kernel Lock" in the kernel debug menu. For some reason it defaults to off sometimes.

I seem to be having trouble cloning from the git repository using the ebuild today. Is it down?

The git has been down for the past two days at least. Still hoping to find v2.6.38-zen0 on one of my updates.

Cheers,
Pappy

You can add their cgit URL as a remote and pull from that: http://git.zen-kernel.org/zen-stable/

pappy, you can just download straight from their git repository browser. go to master branch and then to the latest commit message and then download one of the archives from the download section. anyways, here's the link to the latest one, the archive type is bz2: http://git.zen-kernel.org/zen-stable/snapshot/zen-stable-93af96e9c1aa3e47085fa43dc5f85af10f0e7a38.tar.bz2
the version is 2.6.38.2-zen
this is a good temporary solution until the fatal read error is eradicated. but, you can't update these archives with git.

1. Are there other .38-zen versions out there? If so, I'd like to get a hold of them so I can make seeds.
2. No more colored text at kernel boot? That was one of my favorite things.
3. Is the git going to be up any time soon?
4. Do you have the patch handy to create the colored text?

Cheers,
Pappy
