Are there any ebuilds available for xorg-server 1.9.0 RC1 and does anyone know if the new xorg server breaks compatibility with the current nvidia drivers, specifically 256.29?

I use the testing version 1.8.1 :P Gentoo use the 1.7.6 on the stable arch.

I didn't know that the version 1.9 was out.

Think of it more as a xorg-server-1.8.50, I don't think it will break much and it should be quite stable already.

Ok, used my existing xorg-server-1.8.1.901.ebuild (renaming to 1.8.99.901 was enough) and it built fine, however X segfaulted shortly after startup. So... for now I'm back to 1.8.2 RC1, no time for hunting bugs. These lines were written with lynx. :D

xorg-server-1.8.99.903 (RC3 already) is out and now that I tried and watched it segfaulting again, I tried another WM (fluxbox) and that worked. So, it's KDE 4.4.85 that currently seems to have a problem.

Try dissabling dri2 or composite. I have the same issue but dissabling composite I have been able to load kde.

It seems mesa-7.8.2 is the culprit at least for intel chips. To get AIGLX on my i915 with 1.9.0 RC3, I had to compile mesa-9999. It works now, albeit software rendering only right now (screen flickering on i915 driver).
