Hi,

my Gentoo (actually Sabayon 5.3) shuts down once in a while my laptop (Lenovo T500) without prior notice. At first I thought it would be the temperature, but executing

Code:
grep . /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/*/*

shows that the temperature is way below the threshold. Any hints how I could find out the cause, any mitigating actions?

Thanks.

Moved from Kernel & Hardware to Unsupported Software as Sabayon is not officially supported.

if your sabayon shutdown nicely then it's a call for shutdown, if the software trigger is higher than current temp it doesn't mean the bios might have a trigger lower than your current temp.
Check bios for auto shutdown on temperature level.

i might also add, that shutdown a laptop because of temperature is highly common for laptop.
Must be what sabayon guys told you.

Does it shutdown when you compile something or it's really a random problem ?

It is rather random. I have loaded the coretemp and hddtemp modules, yet to no avail.

I think I need to throttle down the processor in order not to heat too much ("underclocking" / "downclocking"), anybody any ideas how to do it?

Yes, you should enable the gouvernor powersave or something similar inside the kernel.
