Perhaps this howto helps you. If you want to unmask a packet with many masked dependencies, app-portage/autounmask may be helpful.

Best regards,
Jimini

What's your concrete problem?
Please also be aware that most hardmasked packages are also masked by a keyword so you need to unmask them in package.unmask as well as in package.keywords.
But I always recommend using autounmask which is quite convenient.

Then add them both to package.unmask and package.keywords. Keyword for package.keywords should be ** for both. Should look something like this:

package.keywords:
Code:
=x11-wm/compiz-fusion-9999 **
=sys-devel/gcc-4.5.0 **

package.unmask:
Code:
=x11-wm/compiz-fusion-9999
=sys-devel/gcc-4.5.0

In my case, /etc/portage/package.keywords contains
Code:
x11-wm/compiz-fusion ~amd64
x11-plugins/compiz-plugins-main ~amd64
x11-libs/compizconfig-backend-kconfig4 ~amd64
x11-wm/compiz ~amd64
x11-plugins/compiz-plugins-extra ~amd64
x11-apps/ccsm ~amd64
dev-python/compizconfig-python ~amd64
x11-libs/libcompizconfig ~amd64
dev-libs/protobuf ~amd64
x11-libs/compiz-bcop ~amd6

But I don't get your problem, since this is even explained when you try to emerge a masked package.

Best regards,
Jimini

P.S.:
Google leads to this nice page about autounmask.

for compiz its the ** that solved that problem
never had to set something after the name
for example x >=X11-base/xorg-server-9999
thats all i had to make in unmask and keywords

thanks for the compiz unmasking
