Has anyone tried the spotify for linux? Im having problems with the rpm package.

http://www.spotify.com/se/blog/archives/2010/07/12/linux/

http://www.spotify.com/se/download/previews/

I downloaded the rpm for Feodora : spotify-release-1-1.noarch.rpm

got the key with:
Code:

gpg --keyserver wwwkeys.de.pgp.net --recv-keys 4E9CFF4E
gpg --textmode -a --export 4E9CFF4E >> gpg-pubkey-4e9cff4e
rpm --import gpg-pubkey-4e9cff4e

installed som required packages with:
Code:

rpm -vi --force --nodeps

libcap-lib, pulsaudio and webkit-qt

and finaly installed spotify:
Code:

rpm -vi --force --nodeps spotify-release-1-1.noarch.rpm

It worked good, as root anyway. Couldent get it runing as a user.

But then i tryed uninstalling it all with "rpm -e" to emerge all the requred packages from portage and then instal only spotify via rpm. Now i cant install it again :(

rpm gives no output at all and nothing happens:

Code:

rpm -vi --force --nodeps spotify-release-1-1.noarch.rpm
 Preparing packages for installation...
 spotify-release-1-1

So any ideas, has anyone else tryed this?

Wold it be easyer or better to use the package for Debian/Ubuntu? In that case how can i add ubuntu packages in gentoo?

Moved from Multimedia to Unsupported Software, given that it is not in the tree.

With playonlinux is "emerge" and play! Just emerge playonlinux and then search for spotify through the playonlinux search box and it will automatically tun everything. But i really would go for www.musicuo.com , the html5 spotify version :)
Hope it helps.

I've just created an updated ebuild if you'd like to use that one. Just put in in your local portage overlay (/usr/local/portage/media-sound/spotify/), go to it and run
Code:
ebuild spotify-0.4.8.306.ebuild digest

and then

Code:
emerge -a spotify

It worked for me, and I hope you like it! I don't have an overlay or anything, just edited an old ebuild I found on this forum, so it uses the latest release with the correct dependencies. The sad part is that they seemed to have added requirements on PulseAudio, which they didn't have before. I'm currently going through the Gentoo Wiki to set it up, just to make Spotify work correctly.

The code for the ebuild is the following, just create the file I described above, paste it into it, and save. You should be ready to go after that!

Code:
# Copyright 1999-2010 Gentoo Foundation
# Distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2
# $Header: $

EAPI="2"

DESCRIPTION="Spotify desktop client"
HOMEPAGE="http://www.spotify.com/"

LICENSE="Spotify"
SLOT="0"
KEYWORDS="~amd64 ~x86"
IUSE="gnome"

MY_PV="${PV}.g1df0858-1"
MY_P="${PN}-client-qt_${MY_PV}"

SRC_BASE="http://repository.spotify.com/pool/non-free/${PN:0:1}/${PN}/"
SRC_URI="
   x86?   ( ${SRC_BASE}${MY_P}_i386.deb )
   amd64? ( ${SRC_BASE}${MY_P}_amd64.deb )
   gnome? ( ${SRC_BASE}${PN}-client-gnome-support_${MY_PV}_all.deb )
   "

RDEPEND="
   >=media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.14
   >=sys-devel/gcc-4.0
   >=sys-libs/glibc-2.6
   >=x11-libs/qt-core-4.5
   >=x11-libs/qt-dbus-4.5
   >=x11-libs/qt-gui-4.5
   >=x11-libs/qt-webkit-4.5
   "

RESTRICT="mirror strip"

src_unpack() {
   for MY_A in ${A}; do
      unpack ${MY_A}
      unpack ./data.tar.gz
   done
}

src_install() {
   mv "${WORKDIR}"/usr "${D}" || die "Install failed"
}

Nice to know we have an ebuild for spotify, but it's really a pain having to install and run esd just to listen some music. Right now playonlinux+spotify i an easier/faster solution without need of extra services. Anyway, www.musicuo.com makes me happy.

I don't think it needs esd anymore, but in the latest release they have added a dependency on PulseAudio instead (also?). I'm not running with esd, and it works for me. I didn't have PulseAudio before, but for Spotify I was ready to install it without delay.
