Following along with the e17 wiki and it seemed so clear, but when I try to emerge, portage only sees enlightenment 16:

~$emerge -pv x11-wm/enlightenment

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] x11-wm/enlightenment-1.0.7 USE="nls -dbus -doc -esd -pango -pulseaudio -xcomposite -xinerama -xrandr" 0 kB

----------------------------------

I'm using portage ver. 2.1.9.25
The enlightenment overlay appears all set in layman:

~$layman -a enlightenment
* Failed to add overlay "enlightenment".
* Error was: Overlay "enlightenment" already in the local list!

I double-checked all my steps in the Keywords and Use Flags sections of http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/E17:

mkdir /etc/portage/package.keywords <<done>>
cd /etc/portage/package.keywords <<done>>
ln -s /var/lib/layman/enlightenment/scripts/package.keywords.livecvs enlightenment <<done>>

File: /etc/portage/package.use/enlightenment.use
x11-libs/e_dbus X
x11-libs/evas X jpeg png svg xpm fontconfig
x11-libs/ecore X curl
<<done and done>>

and it appears the e17 ebuild is in /usr/portage/x11-wm/enlightenment:
-rw-r--r-- 1 portage portage 2146 Aug 9 03:21 enlightenment-0.16.9999.ebuild

But the end result is the same:

~$emerge -pv x11-wm/enlightenment

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] x11-wm/enlightenment-1.0.7 USE="nls -dbus -doc -esd -pango -pulseaudio -xcomposite -xinerama -xrandr" 0 kB

Forgot to mention the appropriate line is in my /etc/make.conf:

Try telling it specifically what version you want and it should tell you whats wrong.
Code:
emerge =x11-wm/enlightenment-9999

Hi Skellr,

It reported that it wasn't a proper package atom....

I went back to the layman section of the Gentoo Overlays wiki and I think I've found my problem.
I didn't provide the right "source" statement in /etc/make.conf according to the version of layman currently installed - 1.4.xx

I was using this statement in /etc/make.conf: source /usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf
But this is for layman ver. 1.2.xx

When I replaced it with: source "/var/lib/layman/make.conf" (which is for ver. 1.3.xx)
emerge -pv x11-wm/enlightenment produced all the *.9999 ebuild results.

hmm, i wonder if not having the " " marks in my first attempt was also part of the problem?

Everything is compiling right now; let's see if it's a success.

Thanks for your time and help -- sometimes one little prompt or nudge can make all the difference.

Hi,
Glad you noticed that. Almost there now, see you around.

Moved from Desktop Environments to Unsupported Software, support for overlay ebuilds belongs in US.
