Hi,

Did anybody manage to make an ebuild for the scangearmp from canon?
The point is: I do have a canon pixma mg5150 multifunctional.
I got the printer working with the unsupported ebuild: cnijfilter-3.40-r2.ebuild (to my limited understanding, this uses the linux driver provided by canon)
But the scanner is something else although there exists the scangearmp from canon which works fine under ubuntu. (.deb and rpm are provided, I tested it)

Sane does not support my scanner, I have emerged the xsane frontend and the sane-backends without specifying the pixma SANE_BACKENDS in make.conf so I should have all supported models (almost)

sane-find-scanner -q gives me following info: "found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1748 [MG5100 series]) at libusb:001:002"

but scanimage -L gives:
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

and scanimage -T gives:
scanimage: no SANE devices found

Ofcourse the multifunc. is powerd on.

Next, I tried downloading the source file from canon scangearmp and tried to install it with their installscript.
Ofcourse this is just some dpkg or rpm thing because it stops with: "An error occurred. The package management system cannot be identified"

I am a bit reluctant of using alien to get the rpm or deb installed.

Is there anybody else who tried this particular printer/scanner in a different way? Is there another way to get the scanner to work?

Gutenprint is also installed (unmasked to get latest version) but I can't find out how to scan from gimp using gutenprint, I see an option for sane only.

thanks for any help.

cheers.

Sorry for my late reply, I tried the instructions but it seems that the pixma mg5150 scanner is still not supported. the printer however, I got that part working anyway.
