worked :D

now there a problem with the drivers.
I am using by the default the built in kernel drivers (with radeon-ucode) they work fine but not good enough for 3d acceleration.
So i installed ati-drivers and swithed to opengl-ati (eselect opengl set ati).
Now when i reboot i get a black screen because theres a conflict with the kernel build drivers, but when i disable then completly in the kernel the kernel doesnt boot properly.

So what should i disable explizit in the kernel to use ati-drivers

Cheers

Are you using framebuffer? If so turn off for now and see if that works to get at least to the cli without the built in kernel driver.

take a look what is needed for xf86-video-ati (radeon): http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Radeon

and what for fglrx: http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Fglrx

and you'll know what to disable ;)

generally: "<*> Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support" shouldn't be needed for fglrx

what card are you using ?

my Evergreen (5850) works excellent so far with the opensource drivers :)

I'm using the 9999 versions of

libdrm mesa xf86-video-ati

from the x11-overlay

that should be all needed to get a fast driver

and of course kernel >=2.6.37

you won't be happy with compiz 0.9* and fglrx since there are lots of problems with it:

e.g. windows' content won't get refreshed with mipmap activated - the same when using application switcher

so (at least for me) it wasn't usable

I haven't tested it yet with the opensource drivers

I'm still using compiz 0.8* + emerald

which works well enough for me :)

I have changed with gconf the windows manager to compiz but now there is missing the windows panel from programm so the panel where i can close, maximize and minimize a window

i got an old HD4850

that card isn't bad :)

emerge emerald

--> emerald --replace

or if you got support for gtk/gnome or kde

--> gtk-window-decorator --replace

--> kde4-window-decorator --replace

you need to enable window decoration via ccsm

emerge ccsm

and start compiz via

compiz ccp --sm-disable --replace

(you probably don't need --sm-disable)

had a gddr-ram problem with the hd5870 last year and went back to it :D
should i add them all to startup?:
emerald --replace
gtk-window-decorator --replace
compiz ccp --sm-disable --replace

i typed thin on after another in the terminal and became:
Quote:

compiz ccp --sm-disable --replace
compiz (cube) - Warn: Failed to load slide: freedesktop

gtk-window-decorator --replace
Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.

compiz ccp --sm-disable --replace allowed me to use the desktop-cube, but the window still missing.

cheers

nope, only the decorator that you like matching your desktop environment

e.g. Gnome -> gtk-window-decorator OR emerald

CCSM <-- configure here your compiz experience :)

it's under "Effects" -> "Window Decoration"

i did follwoing:

1. gconf-editor->desktop->gnome->session->required_components->windowmanager "emerald"

2. in the startup-applications i added:
emerald --replace
compiz ccp --sm-disable --replace

and it still doesnt work.
seems that theres a problem with the window manager, because i cant even change the size of the windows or move them from right to left.
i also cant open the compizconfigsettings

cheers

that's not a problem but missing options that you have enabled in ccsm (obviously that's a result by not being able to execute ccsm)

yeah,

but first after you've double-checked that you've set up your locales correctly:

Gentoo Linux: Anleitung zur deutschen Lokalisierung

and there are some potential fixes:
[solved] ccsm does not load
unsupported locale / no german keymap

I already used youre localehowto.
but there still something wrong but it has to do with the local settings

locale
Quote:

locale
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

/etc/env.d/02locale
Quote:

LANG="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="C"

/etc/locale.gen
Quote:

en_US ISO-8859-1
#en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
#ja_JP.EUC-JP EUC-JP
#ja_JP.UTF-8 UTF-8
#ja_JP EUC-JP
#en_HK ISO-8859-1
#en_PH ISO-8859-1
de_DE ISO-8859-1
de_DE@euro ISO-8859-15
#es_MX ISO-8859-1
#fa_IR UTF-8
#fr_FR ISO-8859-1

The locale Problem is since i created the 02locale file and set it to DE,
It would be solve if i rm 02locale but it think this isnt the best solution.
What should i change now?

Regards

oh - come on

it's so obvious :P

add the missing UTF-8 entries to

/etc/locale.gen

you can't use something that you didn't create in the first place

I have now enabled 3D-CUbe, Rotate CUbe, WIndows Decoration, fadding windows, shift swithcer, move windows and the important.

I don't know that kind of functionality for compiz

maybe it exists for the new compiz (0.9*)

does this exist for kde4 ?

or where you referring to Windows 7 ;)
