Hi, I'm trying to rescue a critical disk with lots of stuff in lost+found. I am new to this; but the way I gather, the standard method is either automatically with fsck.

I already tried fdisk, but strangely, this is the output:
http://pastebin.com/gAYwzV2k

It seems to me that fsck for one thinks everything is fine (the files on the drive are definitely corrupted).

Is there any way to make fsck merge the lost+found content explicitly?
Or am I getting something wrong?

I'm not afraid to try odd stuff, as this is an image of the broken disk.

Thank you!

I had fsck move everything into lost+found once, and I just manually moved it all back again. Are you sure the data is corrupt?

The problem is that the data is not mine; it contains few large VMware disk images (*.vmdk); the admin who was taking care of the server left. I only know that the server "crashed" and now I have this backup and that VMware has read errors trying to handle the files.

I could actually move back some of the lost+found files; however some of the files in lost+found are actually still existent on the normal file system. => Duplicates..
I read somewhere that I could try and dd-rescue the two files in order to get rid of the errors, but I'm not sure how to set that up and I don't have too much time for all the trial and error..

Anyway, to get back to the original question, I'm certain the files are corrupt and I think it's weird that fsck wouldn't say they are despite the fact that lost+found has more content than the rest of the drive ;)
