Window Manager From Scratch is a really awesome and fairly new window manager I found. It's a tiling window manager (think ratpoison) that can run stacking that seems to be quite configurable. It's not in Portage, but the install is a pretty simple ./configure ; make ; make install kinda thing. It seems to be pretty popular with the Arch crowd, but I really haven't found too many Gentoo users using it (no threads on the forum). I really quite like it, and I would really like to see what other users think of it.

It sounds interesting. I will likely give it a shot. Currently I am using Xmonad and StumpWM but it's always nice to try out a new minimalistic tiling WM. I'm needing to get acquainted with Gentoo's custom build system so perhaps it might be a good project for me to learn to build an ebuild for it as well.

I've been using awesome for half a year, and I am really happy with it. It's configuration its done completely with lua, it is more a meta window manager, where you configure it exactly the way to behave, you have the parts, and you can glue them as you like; it has a very rich api.

If you do not want this, and just use a tiling wm, then its default configuration is more than enough.

There is an ebuild: http://wmfs.info/projects/wmfs/wiki
But if QA likes 9999 ebuilds with ~x86 and ~amd64 keywords, they should be without?

9999 ebuilds with ~x86 or ~amd64 are ok. If added to the tree live ebuilds would need to be package masked (hard masked).

Moved from Gentoo Chat to Unsupported Software as it's not currently in the Portage tree.

Uhm no much information about this wm in the forum, but i wanted to vote, I use it since April (3 months ago) and very happy with it, easy configuration through text file and lighter than my former wm (fvwm2).
