EDIT: Adobe Air currently only provides 32-bit binaries, which when run on no-multilib systems will error with "No such file or directory".

I know this sounds like a straight forward issue, and hopefully it is for someone, but I can't seem to figure out what's going on.
I decided to try to install the Pandora One Desktop Application, which requires adobe air.
The install unfortunately isn't as straight forward as a normal emerge, but I managed to get through it:

    Downloaded the adobeair.i386.rpm
    emerged RPM
ran rpm -i adobeair.i386.rpm - which complained about a bunch of dependencies for a number of libraries and system calls, really obscure things like rm and ls ;-)
ran rpm --nodeps -i adobe.i386.rpm - which complained about the lack of gnome-keyring or kwallet
    emerged gnome-keyring
reran rpm --nodeps -i adobe.i386.rpm - This time the installer appeared to work
I then downloaded the pandora air application - pandora_2_0_5.air - and then hunted down the Adobe Air Application installer using updatedb/locate/grep
This is where I hit the issue

I found the the file, and I would expect an ls -al to demonstrate it's existance:
Code:
compname user# ll /opt/Adobe\ AIR/Versions/1.0/Adobe\ AIR\ Application\ Installer
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 16136 Mar 11 12:23 /opt/Adobe AIR/Versions/1.0/Adobe AIR Application Installer

But when I try to execute the application installer I get this:
Code:
compname user# /opt/Adobe\ AIR/Versions/1.0/Adobe\ AIR\ Application\ Installer
bash: /opt/Adobe AIR/Versions/1.0/Adobe AIR Application Installer: No such file or directory

Isn't that the file I just listed?
Anyone else have this working?

When I hit seeming contradictions like this, I run 'strace' on both commands and compare the successful access with the failed one

Code:

strace -f -o /tmp/TRACE.ls ls /opt/Adobe\ AIR/Versions/1.0/Adobe\ AIR\ Application\ Installer
strace -f -o /tmp/TRACE.run /bin/bash /opt/Adobe\ AIR/Versions/1.0/Adobe\ AIR\ Application\ Installer

Before I dump the strace info:

Code:
compname user# /bin/bash /opt/Adobe\ AIR/Versions/1.0/Adobe\ AIR\ Application\ Installer
/opt/Adobe AIR/Versions/1.0/Adobe AIR Application Installer: /opt/Adobe AIR/Versions/1.0/Adobe AIR Application Installer: cannot execute binary file

Seems odd given this was the linux RPM version of the tool.

Now for the strace info:

Oops, no wonder bash won't work to execute this installer -- it's a binary installer, not a shell script like I was remembering for Linux version of Adobe Reader that I installed Once Upon A Time.

Anyways, I just verified that when you try to run an executable of the wrong format, you can end up with "not found" error. I see this is a 32-bit application; are you successfully running other 32-bit executables on your system, or could there be something tweaked with your 32-bit support?

Well I guess that would explain it:
user@compname ~ $ eselect profile list
Available profile symlink targets:
[1] default/linux/amd64/10.0
[2] default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop
[3] default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop/gnome
[4] default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop/kde
[5] default/linux/amd64/10.0/developer
[6] default/linux/amd64/10.0/no-multilib *
[7] default/linux/amd64/10.0/server
[8] hardened/linux/amd64
[9] hardened/linux/amd64/no-multilib
[10] selinux/2007.0/amd64
[11] selinux/2007.0/amd64/hardened
[12] selinux/v2refpolicy/amd64
[13] selinux/v2refpolicy/amd64/desktop
[14] selinux/v2refpolicy/amd64/developer
[15] selinux/v2refpolicy/amd64/hardened

Thanks for the help. And now that you helped me figure out the issue, I found this page, which confirms it:

You're welcome.

If you've got the disk space, running Air in a 32-bit chroot should be possible -- I keep around a 32-bit gentoo partition that can be used for stuff like that.

Interesting idea, if I find more compelling reason than just running the pandora desktop app I might give it a try.
Thanks!
