I'm trying to install GNOME 3 from the overlay, and after tackling various problems by searching the internet, I have become stuck.

NetworkManager is failing to build.

The important section of the build log:

g-ir-scanner: link: /bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link --tag=CC --silent gcc -o /var/tmp/portage/net-misc/networkmanager-0.8.998/work/NetworkManager-0.8.998/libnm-util/tmp-introspectlaS4xl/NetworkManager-1.0 -export-dynamic -O2 -march=i686 -pipe -L. libnm-util.la -pthread -lgio-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -ldbus-glib-1 -ldbus-1 -lpthread -lgobject-2.0 -lgthread-2.0 -lrt -lglib-2.0 /var/tmp/portage/net-misc/networkmanager-0.8.998/work/NetworkManager-0.8.998/libnm-util/tmp-introspectlaS4xl/NetworkManager-1.0.o

Moved from Networking & Security to Unsupported Software as overlay ebuilds are not officially supported.

im not sure either but i think it could be because of two things :

- you dont have the testing glib package installed
- after re-emerging / updating glib you have to rebuild gobject-introspection too.

In case rebuilding gobject-introspection doesnt help there is a gir-rebuilder.py script in the scripts directory of the gnome overlay, give that a try and maybe it cacthes some mismatch in your system.
If nothing helps try disabling the introspection USE of from networkmanager, not sure that will work though.

hope this helps a but further.

cheers
