Hey guys!

I've been looking for some ebuilds (Firefox 5 aKa Aurora and Firefox 6 aKa Nightly). I've discovered many overlays, but I did not find anything. :( So, if anyone is able to help me, I would appreciate his/her work! :) (Gentoo's community is just AWESOME! (: I like it! ).

Best wishes,

Loko123

You should use the overlays. These are typically used for packages that for one reason or another (and there are some good ones) can't be added to the main package repository.

But overlays are easy, and in many respects the 'correct' way to distribute ebuilds for this kind of thing.

Hey erik258,

I'm using the mozilla overlay, but there are no ebuilds for Firefox 5 and Firefox 6. :( Is there any chance to contact the developers of the overlay? :)

Best wishes,

Yeah! Isn't that incredible? :-D

For Firefox 5 visit:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora/

and for Firefox 6 you have to visit:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/

It is possible to extract the .tar.bz2 and use the latest features, but I think an ebuild for FF5 (Aurora) and FF6 (Nightly) builds would be much better. But as I have mentioned, I am not able to write an ebuild. :( I would appreciate the work of some devs and/or the community! :)

Best wishes,

You could try to modify the current ebuilds (xulrunner and firefox) by renaming it to the proper version (e.g. firefox-5.0_alpha1.ebuild) and tweaking the download URLs as needed. (The ebuilds are written to be generic and should automatically try to do "the right thing" based on the version.)

You can also check the mozilla overlay from time to time to see if there's it's added here: http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=proj/mozilla.git;a=tree;f=www-client/firefox;hb=HEAD

There's also user Sardem FF7's overlay which apparently contains a "firefox-9999" ebuild: http://gpo.zugaina.org/www-client/firefox

Well, I can't think of a better way to learn then to try. You can post back with any problems, issues, ect.. Plenty of help around.

Well the ebuild package set required a bit of work, along with other misc tweaks in order to keep things smooth. It is all in the mozilla overlay now. If you all have any problems please open a bug report so I can address them as soon as possible :)

I tried using the mozilla overlay but it seems like someone removed firefox from it. I even checked on the git link and firefox is not a tree anymore.

Code:
~ $ cave show www-client/firefox-bin
* www-client/firefox-bin
    ::gentoo                  (3.6.17)PP (3.6.18)PP(~) (4.0.1)PP(~) (5.0)P(~)* {:0}
    ::layman                  (5.0 (in ::stuff))X (6.0_alpha2 (in ::moonrise))X (7.0_alpha1 (in ::moonrise))X {:0}

There you go, it's in the moonrise overlay. No source ebuilds though.
