Since it took me 2 full days to unlock my new Galaxy mini GT-S5570 I thought to save others like me the trouble.

I'm a Linux-only user and didn't get SuperOneClick working so I spent 2 days installing Windows apps in wine and have even broken the seal of the XP cd that came with my EeePC but also that didn't work. Then I finally found out about adb and the possibility to do the rooting and unlocking from the shell From then it took me 5 minutes to root and unlock.

Since not every Linux user likes the shell I started working on a nice desktop app to provide a basic adb GUI. The first Alpha release is online now and I would really appreciate any comments on it.

It's called: DroidController
Works for: Linux
Deps: Kommander, xterm, wget
Features: Reboot recovery/bootloader, start/kill/restart server, list devices, open shell, root/unroot.

Features for the next version: unlock, push/pull files, install/uninstall apps, backup files and system.

Get it @ Sourceforge

hey, I was just starting to research installing the android sdk kit and ran into a blocker - wants to downgrade xulrunner. So lo and behold here's this - I'll definitely take a look. Nearly bricked my samsung galaxy s phone trying heimdall on gentoo - Odin on a windows computer worked after fiddling for hours trying to get heimdall or virtualbox to work. Hours. Like all day to finally get my phone working again and updated to gingerbread, and rooted.

so, thanks! /jd

oops, where did I go wrong:
Code:
 $ sudo ./install.sh
Password:
usr/share/droidcontroller
usr/share/droidcontroller/superuser
usr/share/droidcontroller/superuser/Superuser.apk
usr/share/droidcontroller/dc-get-deps.sh
Starting the installation..........
`usr/bin/droidcontroller.kmdr' -> `/usr/bin/droidcontroller.kmdr'
`usr/bin/droidcontroller-howto.kmdr' -> `/usr/bin/droidcontroller-howto.kmdr'
`usr/bin/adb' -> `/usr/bin/adb'
`usr/bin/RootMyDroid' -> `/usr/bin/RootMyDroid'
`usr/share/pixmaps/droidcontroller.png' -> `/usr/share/pixmaps/droidcontroller.png'
`usr/share/applications/DroidController.desktop' -> `/usr/share/applications/DroidController.desktop'
`usr/share/icons/droidcontroller.png' -> `/usr/share/icons/droidcontroller.png'
`usr/share/droidcontroller' -> `/usr/share/droidcontroller'
`usr/share/droidcontroller/superuser' -> `/usr/share/droidcontroller/superuser'
`usr/share/droidcontroller/superuser/Superuser.apk' -> `/usr/share/droidcontroller/superuser/Superuser.apk'
`usr/share/droidcontroller/dc-get-deps.sh' -> `/usr/share/droidcontroller/dc-get-deps.sh'
DroidController installed succesfully, you can now start the program from your menu or execute: droidcontroller.kmdr in a terminal.

This program has some dependencies. Use your packagemanager to install: kommander (might be in kdewebdev package).
If you want to use the root and shell features of DroidController also install xterm and wget

$ droidcontroller.kmdr
bash: /usr/bin/droidcontroller.kmdr: /usr/bin/kmdr-executor: bad interpreter: No such file or directory

Some distributions only have the kommander executor avalable. To make it easy they now just call it kommander. All scripts made with mkdr-editor still ask for the kmdr-executor by default. There are multiple solutions to this error:

1: Execute the script with kommander

Code:
kommander /path/to/script.kmdr

2: Create a symlink in your /usr/bin/folder

Code:
cd /usr/bin
ln -s kommander kmdr-executor

3: You can also set an alias in your .bashrc

Code:
alias kmdr-executor="/usr/bin/kommander"

All of these workarounds should do the trick.... (you only need to do one)

many thanks! works. Unfortunately bricked the phone on Odin so now having to build an unbrick jig. But if successful, will try this. I have gotten more familiar with the adb command line though.

thanks again, JD
