Trying to emerge -avuD world and virtualbox is pulled in and fails: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.

If anyone needs any more info let me know.

Does the source "All distributions i386 | AMD64" from http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads compile?

# ln -s /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.4.5/32/libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so.6


This is what I did and emerge finished virtualbox just fine. Not sure this is actually the right thing to do but it worked.

@bjlockie
While I'm not completely new to linux, there aren't any source on that page you linked just .run files unless there's a way to unpack without auto running the installer.
