Hi all

I was wondering if someone could give me some pointers. I have been trying to start jackd with the /etc/init.d/jackd script with no luck. I can start it with qjackctl and from the command line fine. When I try /etc/init.d/jackd -d start, I see the following:

Code:

collin@Krypton ~ $ sudo /etc/init.d/jackd -d start
+ _conf_d=/etc/init.d/../conf.d
+ _c=jackd
+ '[' -n jackd -a jackd '!=' jackd ']'
+ unset _c
+ sourcex -e /etc/init.d/../conf.d/jackd.default
+ '[' -e = -e ']'
+ shift
+ '[' -e /etc/init.d/../conf.d/jackd.default ']'
+ return 1
+ sourcex -e /etc/init.d/../conf.d/jackd
+ '[' -e = -e ']'
+ shift
+ '[' -e /etc/init.d/../conf.d/jackd ']'
+ . /etc/init.d/../conf.d/jackd
++ JACKDUSER=collin
++ JACKDHOME=/home/collin
++ LOG=/var/log/jackd.log
+ unset _conf_d
+ sourcex -e /etc/rc.conf
+ '[' -e = -e ']'
+ shift
+ '[' -e /etc/rc.conf ']'
+ . /etc/rc.conf
++ rc_shell=/sbin/sulogin
++ unicode=YES
++ rc_tty_number=12
++ rc_device_tarball=NO
++ dmesg_level=1
++ XSESSION=Xfce4
+ '[' -n '' ']'
+ sourcex /etc/init.d/jackd
+ '[' /etc/init.d/jackd = -e ']'
+ . /etc/init.d/jackd
+ unset _d
+ unset _f
+ '[' -n start ']'
+ '[' start = depend ']'
+ for _cmd in describe start stop status '${extra_commands:-$opts}' '$extra_started_commands'
+ '[' describe = start ']'

++ command -v start

+ unset _cmd
++ command -v start_pre

++ cat /home/collin/.jackdrc
++ sed -e 's\/usr/bin/jackd \\'

+ '[' -e /var/run/jackd.pid ']'
+ rm /var/run/jackd.pid
+ ebegin 'Starting JACK Daemon'
 * Starting JACK Daemon ...
+ env HOME=/home/collin start-stop-daemon --start --background --make-pidfile --pidfile /var/run/jackd.pid -c collin -x jackd -- -dalsa -dhw:0 -r48000 -p1024 -n2 -Xraw
+ sleep 2
+ pgrep -u collin jackd
+ eerror 'JACK daemon can'\''t be started! Check logfile: /var/log/jackd.log'
 * JACK daemon can't be started! Check logfile: /var/log/jackd.log
+ eend 1                                                                  [ !! ]
+ exit 1
 * ERROR: jackd failed to start

The values are all correct, and /var/log/jackd.log is empty. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

UPDATE: I did not catch this part of the Gentoo JACK wiki page:
Quote:

Note on Realtime: Due to a limitation in the implementation of start-stop-daemon, it is not possible to start jackd in realtime mode as a non-root user by this method if using pam_limits. start-stop-daemon does not implement support for pam_sessions, meaning that changes to limits.conf have no effect in this context.
