i have been trying to fix this error for some week now but have not manage to find the info to solve this:

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.7.0-alpha20110618/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: i386:x86-64 architecture of input file `endiantest.o' is incompatible with i386 output
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.7.0-alpha20110618/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: final link failed: Invalid operation
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
gmake: *** [endiantest] Error 1
Unknown byte order!

the same goes with my stable gcc:

mybox ~ # gcc-config -l
[1] x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.5.2
[2] x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.7.0-alpha20110618 *
mybox ~ #

first of all this is not enough output! if you really want help you need to paste the whole build.log somewhere. Second: you're serious with gcc-4.7.0-alpha? To be honest my guess is that this is your problem. I would wait AT LEAST till the development of gcc reached stage3 before even considering testing a new version of gcc. By waiting you give other projects the chance to port their stuff to the new version of gcc.

Oh it fails for both gcc-4.5.2 AND gcc-4.7 (sorry i didn't have time to have a look at the logs at the weekend and now the pastebin-id is gone....)? In this case something else is wrong. Could you paste your emerge --info too?
