Is your phonon build with the Xine backend?
Code:
# emerge -pvq media-libs/phonon
[ebuild   R   ] media-libs/phonon-4.5.0  USE="xine (-aqua) -debug -gstreamer -pulseaudio -vlc"

If you have multiple backends, you can switch them in System Settings.

Dragon Player uses Phonon to display media, and Phonon uses whichever backend that is set.

So, if you want to use Dragon Player with xine, you have to re-emerge phonon with the "xine" USE flag and then set it as the default backend for KDE.

(Alternatively, you can use a different player based on Xine (xine-ui?))

Also, is there any reason you want to use xine? From what I understand, GStreamer should be able to display petty much anything Xine can.
