As the title says, I am looking for an X11 based program that does just that: play a CD.
What I DON'T want is some programs that organizes my music collection, while sharing what I listen to with the world.

All I want is something that starts, opens the CD-rom (that is, opens, not 'mounts'), and gives me a play/pause, forward, back and eject button. The only fancy thing I like is CD identification through CDDB.

In fact, The best program I found that does just that is kscd.

Then why still look further ?

Because
1. When I start kscd with `kscd -s` it doesn't start playing automatically
2. kscd does not allow me to specify the cdrom device on the command line

3. (nice, but not required), kscd cannot be used with command line only

Any suggestions ?

The problem with simplistic incerfaces is, that they are often very specific. Your needs are also very specific. There are not very much CD player only apps out to begin with and as far as I know none of them match your demands explicitly.

The thing I would have suggested when I read the title would also have been kscd.
Other apps to try out:

-grip (not only a player but also a ripper)
-roxcd

both have a lot of depenencies which I dont want, so I didnt try them.
You might as also want to look at some mplayer frontends, like smplayer. Although that does not quite fit the description "nothing more".

http://www.nongnu.org/apolos/ this is pretty simple, although hasn't been maintained in a while.
