Hi!

Just downloaded portable chrome for linux and set it with

Code:
chmod u+x

to executable for me as user on the terminal I am in front of.

Sadly I get

Quote:
Chromium 9.0.570.0: Chromium 9.0.570.0: Kann die Datei nicht ausführen.

The last german words are: Can't execute file.

What's wrong?

Version 9? That's ancient, and has ton of security vulnerabilities. I don't know why it's broken, maybe you chmod-ed the launcher script and not the binary.

Feel free to post more details, but I think you should ask on the site you downloaded this from. And don't use an outdated version, this is really bad.

Coudn't find any more actual binary for linux per google.

I think it is not possible to use the ones for ubuntu/debian/dep/rpm provided by google.

I'll post again if I find one.

If you're considering the Google binaries, how about using portage packages? www-client/chromium and www-client/google-chrome are there.

www-client/google-chrome is a binary package from portage.
Of course if you want to install it properly you need root privileges ;)

Just want to use it like portableapps in windows - not really installing it. :D

I hope the admin doesn't care about this - as I am on gentoo as a user only here. And he can, as he offers gentoo.

Hmm, maybe gentoo-prefix?

By the way, are you aware that without root the sandbox won't work? That's pretty bad, I really don't recommend it.

So it's not possible to use a native-linux binary-browser (without wine) to use it from usb or downloaded into into the home-directory?

I tried this but it didn't work: http://portablelinuxapps.org/

Seems to be outdated.

I have read that ubuntu offers something like this with installing a few new libarys.

It is possible, but you'd either have to link it statically (not supported), or ensure all needed libraries are in place.

You know I am watching for a browser-bin that has everything included to run from itself - even flash.
