Hello there! I am a HUGE fan of Nagios but am wondering if anyone is using anything else that may be more suited for a VMS system?

I have to monitor many VMS hosts and cannot get the NRPE agent compiled properly and don't want to use ssh.

Any thoughts, ideas welcome!

Thanks!

guys/girls - Thank you VERY much for taking time to respond to me. OpenNMS seems to be more network oriented and Zenoos seems a bit to "closed" to monitor VMS. I could be wrong about both and not finding what I am looking for. The reason I am so stuck on Nagios is it's open mentality of plugins.

Any other thoughts/corrections are welcome, and once again Gentoo Forums come through. There are so many smart friendly people here, I literally built a career from info on this forum.

Thanks!

OpenNMS is even possible to isntall on Gentoo. ;)

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-3976-highlight-opennms.html

OpenNMS, like any other system, has it's ups and downs. They are in the process of getting 1.10 out the door and that looks to be a nice release with some very nice improvements.

OpenNMS tends to be built more like a framework. There's a lot of stuff it just doesn't magically do out of the box, but there's lots of things you can do by tailoring it to your needs.

I'll conceed that monitoring big VM setup's arent what it does easiest, but don't find that limiting in my use of it.

Also, OpenNMS has not had any scalability issues to hit me; it will grow into very large setups.
