Hi, I am trying to install Linux Mint 12 on this notebook but everytime I install fglrx x just wont start...

When starting with fglrx installed it fails and writes in log normal things but few I want to ask about:

Firstly:
Code:

fglrx: intel VGA device detected, load intel driver.
LoadModule : "intel"
....

Is there any way to stop him doing this?? (I tried renaming module but that failed :D)

Secondly:
Everything goes fine after loading intel module but then
Code:

Backtrace:
fglrx(0): PowerXpress: Discrete GPU is selected. //I dont like this either :D ,is there any way to setup this to use ATI and not integrated graphics?

0: /usr/bin/X (...)
1: /usr/bin/X (...)
2: (vdso) (...)
3: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so (...)
4: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so (...)
5: /usr/bin/X
Segmentation fault at adress 0x8

This isnt exact (wrote by hand not copied, if needed I can post whole log)
I think this was caused by Intel/ATI hybrid...

Anyone got any idea how to fix this problem? Thanx :)

ps: Maybe I could take intel integrated GPU cupport from kernel(I tried) but I dont know what modules should I take away...

so according to your logic, I can go ask a linux related question in ubuntu's forums...
we both know what will be the answer.

IMHO, you'll better go to the mint forum cause I don't think you'll get much cooperation here.

Moved from Kernel & Hardware to Unsupported Software. Not about Gentoo so it fits better here.

Do you have a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf? If not, can you try this xorg.conf for using fglrx, hoping that Mint doesn't have additional gpu-detection scripts that override xorg.conf.

Are there any options in the bios setup menu of this notebook to select integrated or discrete instead of hybrid?

If you want to use integrated graphics or opensource ati driver, you may want to blacklist the fglrx module, by adding the line "blacklist fglrx" in the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf (assuming it is the same in Mint as in Gentoo for blacklisting modules from loading automatically).
