|A proprietary and nifty HTML5 animation editor, Timult Hype (~ $30), was brought to my attention. Curiously, Timult has taken the marketing strategy of only releasing their software for the Apple platform. From their FAQ " Tumult Hype was built specifically for the Mac, and we do not currently plan to build a Windows version."
So, my immediate reaction was: what's being developed for Open Source for the Linux community. My search to answer that question has brought me to Elegant Light Linux Animator "Ella" located at http://ella.tuxfamily.org/wiki/Main_Page. Ella appears to have a good number of dependencies:
From http://ella.tuxfamily.org/wiki/Download are the prerequisites:
|You must have installed all Gnu C tools, internationalization tools, gtk libs, goocanvas >0.14 (binaries+headers), swfdec (binaries+headers), swtools (binaries only), libzip (binaries+headers), libgtk (headers)
Note : for current develpment version, you must use (I hope temporary !) valaa, libgee, and libgtk 3.0 in order to compile
Ella's output currently is Flash. There are some Flash examples here: http://ellarenaissance.voila.net/index.html
I searched for "ella" on this forum and did not find any relevant entry, so I thought I would create the post to see if anyone has tried it. A downside is that the output is for Flash which I gather is frowned upon and headed to be replaced by HTML5. I wonder if the developers might harness their toolkit for HTML5; I'm unclear whether SVG support animation -- I do not think it does and am confident someone will correct me by reply.
Their contact page was last modified in March, 2011, so this may be a dormant project. I tried logging into the IRC and did not find anyone there.
