hi guys, After I install gentoo, I update the world ,but sys-devel/binutils-2.22-r1 failed:

"killed" usually means that you do not have enough RAM. Enlarge your swap space (or configure your virtual machine that you can use more RAM).

I swapon the swap partition, then comipled success.

I solved it by changing MAKEOPTS to "-j5"

I could see that it was using a lot of memory.

Changing to "-j5" won't work for everyone of course... :)
Mine was originally "-j9".
To allow less parallell compilations i changed it and therefore less memory was used... I guess...
