Hello,

Since syslinux 5 has reached the tree, I tried to upgrade my extlinux boot. But it failed at startup "cannot find ldlinux.c32".

But there is no on-line documentation for that new version, even on the official syslinux website, wich doesn't mention version 5.0.

Do anybody has the same issue ?

Meanwhile, I will read the documentation.

I guess that package would be hardmasked...

EDIT: the documentation is almost the same as V4, and nor --install, nor --upgrade do the right job.
EDIT2: I filed a mask request

Apparently there are some gotchas with syslinux 5.

I'm running syslinux 5 and issuing the command:
Code:
# extlinux --update /boot

installed ldlinux.c32 whereas before there was just ldlinux.sys - mind you I never had an error after upgrading the package. I assume ldlinux.sys is no longer needed?

All the manuals I see ask to install to /boot/extlinux or /boot/syslinux. There could be the problem.

I'd assume it should work fine using the directories - I just install it directly in boot because I'm lazy. I guess maybe extlinux and syslinux may require the correct directory name for each thing if you have a directory, I have no idea though to be honest :D

Edit: Looks like I did have an issue after updating.
Updating with extlinux --update broke vesamenu, I had to manually copy:
Code:

# cp /usr/share/syslinux/vesamenu.c32 /boot
# cp /usr/share/syslinux/libutil_com.c32 /boot
# cp /usr/share/syslinux/libcom32.c32 /boot

To get it back. Just leaving this here for in case anybody comes across this :)

Hello,

I could boot by renaming "extlinux" in "syslinux", but I could not get the menu (error regarding "COM" and "ELF" stuff).

I masked Syslinux 5 waiting to updated procedures, or bugfixes.
