I am trying to do a fresh install on an Acer Aspire One (ZG5) using a usb stick as it has no cdrom drive.

I downloaded the latest minimal build (install-x86-minimal-20121213.ise) and installed it on the stick using the instructions here:
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Gentoo_minimal_CD_on_USB_stick

Everything seemed to go alright. I was able to get to the bootloader screen, but that is where I run into problems. I am not able to get any further than that. I have no keyboard input with either the F1 or F2 keys nor the enter key. It also does not automatically boot after 15 seconds as it says that it should.

I am getting no error messages or anything useful that I can find to diagnose this.

I do have gentoo currently installed on the system and it works fine. The reason for doing the fresh install is that I have not used the computer for about a year or so and it seems that updating the install looks to be more problematic than a fresh install. Or maybe not.

Any thoughts on what might be the issue?

http://www.sysresccd.org/Sysresccd-manual-en_How_to_install_SystemRescueCd_on_an_USB-stick might work better.
